This river has paths where you can walk, ride, or skate. Water sports include canoeing, windsurfing and sailing, and you can hire the needed equipment.
Perth accommodation is mostly hotels and hostels, varied in price, comfortable, which are close to attractions or available by public transportation including free buses. Riverside and beachfront restaurants and cafes entice you with excellent cuisine. For shoppers there is the up-market King Street with boutiques and art galleries. Murray Street and Hay Street malls feature fashion chain stores and quality department stores. You can catch a game of rugby or cricket at one of the sporting stadiums. Then there is a buzzing nightlife to finish off your evening.
Attractions to visit during the day are many and are exciting or relaxing.
The Perth Mint has refined Australia’s gold since the gold rush in the late 1880′s and is the nation’s oldest operating mint. It is in an elegant building where you can watch molten gold being poured into a gold bar. Legal tender coins and outstanding jewelry are also made there.
The Belltower is one of the largest musical instruments in the world and houses the twelve Swan Bells from the parish church of Buckingham Palace.
Catching a glimpse of Western Grey Kangaroos, especially at dawn or dusk, is possible on Heirisson Island.
The city of Perth is often described as a “parkland oasis” because of its magnificent 18 parkland areas where public art and heritage are prominent. The Queens Gardens was opened in 1899 and has lakes, flower displays, a variety of trees and shrubs, and a gazebo. Wellington Square was established in the 1830s as the ideal place to rain and exercise horses. In 1898 the ground was cleared to make a cricket field, and the Perth Cricket Association and schools still make use of the facility year round.
